The Disney Channel is a network that has produced some of the best movies in recent history, and these five are among the best. They all have a unique story line and a memorable cast of characters. If you’re looking for a good movie to watch on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, these are your top picks.
The list of disney channel original movies is a list of 5 Best Disney Channel Original Movies Ever.
There were few times of the year as thrilling as when the new Disney Channel Original Movies were released as a young child with a television addiction. Sure, Christmas and Halloween were fun, but the accompanying holiday-themed DCOMs (as us acolytes called them) were just as much fun. My sisters and I would fawn over ads starring Ashley Tisdale, Hilary Duff, or Corbin Bleu in the months preceding up to the premiere of a Disney Channel Original Movie, eagerly anticipating the newest piece of cinematic brilliance to come out of Disney Channel’s studio.
These films, formerly known as Disney Channel Premiere Films, have been produced since the Disney Channel first debuted on television in 1983. Tiger Town, a baseball drama starring Roy Scheider and Justin Henry, was the studio’s first and only release that year. The floodgates opened from there. Two Disney Channel Premiere Films were released the next year, in 1984. There were three in 1985. There were six to twelve DCOMs published per year by the mid-2000s, when my childhood was in full swing. One may wonder how Disney Channel managed to create seven excellent films in a single year. To be honest, they weren’t fantastic, but we still like them.
Disney Channel Original Movies are still being produced. Kim Possible, one of my favorite cartoons from the early 2000s, was adapted into a live-action film in 2019. In addition, Disney Plus has almost all of the previous DCOMs accessible to watch. For the sake of this essay, we’ll cut it off around 2012, just around the time when Ashley Tisdale was on her way out and Zendaya was taking over the Disney Channel. Zendaya, I apologize for taking up so much of my time. The following are the top five Disney Channel Original Films of all time:
Zenon, the Girl of the Twenty-First Century
Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, based on a 1997 children’s picture book by Marilyn Sadler, was published in 1999, although it was set in the year 2049. Kirsten Storms portrays Zenon Kar, a 13-year-old girl who lives on a space station circling Earth and has issues with authority. Zenon is brought to Earth by her parents as a punishment for her poor conduct (presumably the 2049 version of military school), and she has difficulty integrating with the Earthlings.
Zenon finds a plan to destroy the space station where her parents reside while on Earth. She is able to return to the space station and rescue the day with the aid of her pals and her favorite rock band, Proto Zoa. The whole film was filled with fantastic visual effects and sci-fi settings. Zenon’s closest buddy was played by a young Raven Symone. Everything was incredible.
Twitches (number 4)
Twitches was undoubtedly at the top of the list of fantastic Halloween-themed DCOMs. The film, based on a children’s fantasy book series by H. B. Gilmour, was released in 2005 and featured Tia and Tamera Mowry, who are best known for their roles on Disney Channel’s Sister, Sister. The story chronicled the adventures of twin witches Apolla and Artemis, who were separated at birth, in the magical realm of Coventry. Their house is being attacked by a strange monster known only as “the Darkness,” which they can only overcome by working together.
Apolla now goes by the name Camryn, and Artemis by the name Alex, years after they split up. They happen to cross paths at a shopping mall, and their abilities are restored. After some bickering, the two sisters finally come together to fight the Darkness (who they learn is their uncle and the one who murdered their father). Despite the lack of storyline in Twitches, the magical spells and mystery villain figure were enough to set my pulse racing as a child. They did make a Twitches, too.
Wendy Wu: Warrior of Return
Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior had to make my list since I’m a big fan of kung fu movies and I used to have a major prepubescent love on Brenda Song. Brenda Song’s Wendy Wu had everything going for her. She was a typical American adolescent who was well-liked at school. Why wouldn’t she be popular, right? She was stunning. Sorry, I’ll come to an end now. Anyway, her life is flipped upside down when she receives a visit from Shin Koyamada’s character, Shen, a young monk.
Wendy is warned by Shen that an evil spirit called Yan-Lo is on his way to harm her and that it is her destiny to fight him, but Wendy is more concerned with shopping and competing for homecoming queen.
Wendy eventually comes around and decides to let Shen teach her in the ways of the Yin warrior after everyone around her is possessed by the evil spirit and Wendy breaks up with her boyfriend.
At the homecoming party, Wendy has a confrontation with Yan-Lo, and she and Shen ultimately kick his butt and exile him from the world forever. Apart from my everlasting love for Brenda Song, this film was fantastic in the way it combined genuine Chinese mythology and customs with its own unique aspects.
2. The Irish Prosperity
Although The Luck of the Irish is a long shot on this list, I’m going with it anyhow. Ryan Merriman portrays Kyle Johnson, a middle school athlete who is well aware of his background, in the 2001 picture.
He is the luckiest child on the face of the planet. Every day, he discovers money on the street. On the basketball floor, he produces incredible shots. On all of his exams, he guesses and gets all of the answers correct. He’s also popular with the women. When Kyle goes to an Irish festival and begins step dancing like a maniac, everything changes. He is pushed down in the midst of a throng, and as he rises, he notices that he is different.
He notices that his luck has run out and that his hair is becoming red and he is becoming shorter over the following several days. Kyle soon discovers that his mother is a leprechaun, that he is half-leprechaun, and that his gold coin, which enables them to pass as regular humans, has been taken from him.
Kyle reclaims his gold coin after learning that it was stolen by a wicked leprechaun called Seamus. Kyle challenges Seamus to a game of basketball and then banishes him to Lake Erie. Everything in this film screams “2000s.” Kyle’s hair was spiked up. The exaggerated acting. It wasn’t the greatest DCOM film ever in terms of execution (they did create eleven others that year, after all), but it was one of my favorites.
1. Get your feet wet!
Corbin Bleu and Keke Palmer appeared in the 2007 film Jump In! Is there anything more I can say? The film follows Izzy Daniels, a boxer who is preparing to win the Golden Glove in order to please his father. However, when his friend Mary asks him to fill in for her in a Double Dutch competition, he discovers that he enjoys the sport even more than boxing. Mary and the other members of her Joy Jumpers team invite Izzy to join them. However, he first refuses, fearful of what his friends and father may think.
Yes, you can see how this one is going to turn out. Izzy ultimately joins The Joy Jumpers and practices jump roping in his father’s boxing gym early in the morning. Izzy leaves the squad when it is discovered that she is leaping Double Dutch.
However, when it comes time for the final jump roping competition, Izzy arrives just in time, and their team, which they’ve dubbed The Hot Chili Steppers, triumphs. Izzy also earns his father’s admiration and Mary’s affection. If you think about it, the storyline of the film is nearly identical to that of High School Musical, with the exception that basketball is changed by boxing and musicals are replaced by jump roping. It makes no difference. Jump In! is still considered one of the greatest Disney Channel Original Movies of all time.
The disney channel original movies 2024 is a Disney Channel Original Movie. It is one of the best movies ever made, and was released in 2001.
